Tasting Notes

Rich, generous and beautifully layered. The nose reveals dried and fresh citrus, pear, yellow orchard fruit and dried fruit, developing into freshly baked bread, pastry cream, toasted brioche, warm spice and subtle vanilla. On the palate, it is creamy and expansive yet remarkably precise, with vibrant acidity, fine mousse and a mineral backbone. The finish is exceptionally long, combining citrus freshness, pastry richness and subtle spice.

Pairings

A superb gastronomic Champagne. Pair with caviar, oysters, lobster, scallops, grilled prawns, sashimi and sushi. Its richness also works beautifully with roast chicken, duck, foie gras, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto and aged Comté or Parmesan. For Asian cuisine, try it with roast duck, Cantonese-style seafood or lightly spiced dishes.

Decant

Not recommended. Serve directly from the bottle at around 10–12°C, preferably in a tulip Champagne glass or good white-wine glass rather than a narrow flute. Give it 15–30 minutes in the glass to open and reveal its deeper brioche, fruit and spice characteristics.

Drinking Window

Now–2040+. It is already highly enjoyable—the 170ème is notably approachable for a young Grande Cuvée—but has the acidity, concentration and structure for extended ageing. Published critic windows extend to around 2040–2044.
